History: Korwan Truesteel comes from a short line of adventurers. His
father Aran is a Purple Dragon Knight, famed for his dual-wielding style; his
mother, Celia, is a gifted bardic spellcaster. Korwan was born and raised in
Suzail. Both his elder siblings attended Sigil Prep. Mira, the eldest, is a
paladin, confident, arrogant, the usual. From her narrow view of the world,
Korwan grew to mistrust paladins. Brother Nareth is a charming sorcerer, who
easily drew the attentions of almost every young woman in their part of the
city, and greatly enjoyed his time at Sigil Prep.
They youngest sibling, Ila, is a gifted Wilder, easily
employing powerful psionic abilities. This exceptional family helped to color
Korwan’s perspectives, and rarely for the better.
Korwan grew up with a small, close group of friends,
and the death of Marl Raeglon (who was unable to be resurrected), left Korwan
with a somewhat grim attitude. When his closest friend (and secret crush),
Serailye, was sent away to Sigil Prep, the group seemed to grow apart. Even
after Korwan went to Sigil Prep, he avoided running into Sera.
Korwan’s mind, at the time, seemed to have two
additional mental settings, beyond his normal personality. When stressed or
pushed, he snapped to one of the others. The first was fairly compliant, often
stunned or confused, and allowed to vague acceptance of unusual situations
(which led to his regrettable threesome with Roxy and
Pembe). The other was
colder, more precise and sarcastic. Eventually, the other two personalities were
separated into their own “housings”, the one becoming the personality of his
hamster companion Blue, the other his psicrystal which he calls “the Bastard”.
For a period of time, he was involved with
Anissa
d’Deneith, but their break-up was epic. She was always a bit too spontaneous and
flighty for the more stoic Korwan, and when she jealously hid a letter to keep
him from going home with Sera over break, it was the final straw.
He shortly admitted his love for Sera, and the two have
been a strong couple ever since. In their sophomore year, they moved off
campus, moving into a house beside Regdar's.
Beneath the house is three hundred square miles of dinosaur-infested Lost World,
which Jarna the Jungle Girl sublets from
them.
A couple of weeks after that, Korwan was involved in a
battle with Scream (traitorous leader of the Cannith House Guard). The battle
leveled Cannith Tower, and nearly destroyed the Sanctuary for Awakened Animals.
After this battle (just the latest in a long stream, against such varying
enemies as the Sharp Lord of the Swiss, Manshoon Jr., and numerous others),
Korwan became aware that his life was an unending chain of violence, and he
needed to go off somewhere to consider the direction he was going.
He asked Sera to go with him. However, Sera, had
already left the Conclave of Silverymoon, where she enjoyed her classes and had
made good friends, to be with him. She told him she couldn’t just keep uprooting
herself to follow him, and remained at Sigil Prep.
With no one but Blue and the Bastard to accompany him,
Korwan made his sad farewells.
Appearance: Korwan is fairly average-looking. He has brown hair and eyes,
though he generally shaves his head. At seventeen, he stands five-nine, and has
an average build, though he is in quite good shape. His Elven blood (not enough
to make him a half-elf) is really only visible in the shape of his eyes, though
his ears do have subtle points. He rarely goes anywhere without his armor
ectoshell or his frostbrand sword. His clothing is invariably plain and
functional, ranging from white to gray to black.
Role-playing Korwan: Korwan, unlike most of his classmates, is not a worry-free, idealistic kid. Although he is generally willing to
socialize with most people, he tends to avoid those who are loud, reckless, or
stupid. He is generally polite and respectful, though he doesn’t bother to show
those traits to those he feels don’t deserve politeness or respect. He has a
strong sense of honor, though it resembles that of his favorite teacher, the Justicar, than of the samurai or paladin. He will go out of his way to assist
others, even those he isn’t especially fond of. He is extremely loyal to that
small number of people who have aided him in the past, including Serailye,
Penembre, Htiaf, and Yffub.
In combat, Korwan almost always targets the BBEG first,
absorbing as many attacks of opportunity as it takes to charge the main villain. He
is precise and well-versed in combat, knowing how to maximize his damage, and
minimize his target’s defenses.
Korwan Supporting Cast
Aran Truesteel (human Paladin-7/Purple Dragon Knight-5): Korwan's overbearing father, a purple dragon knight of reknown.
Arelle: Friend from Faerun.
the Bastard (psicrystal): Korwan has a psicrystal which he refers to as The Bastard. It magnifies his resolve and hostility, and seems to hate everyone and everything, including Korwan.
Blue (awakened hamster Psion (nomad)/Pyrokineticist): Korwan is almost always accompanied by his hamster, Blue. Blue is not a traditional animal companion, familiar, or cohort, representing something a little different from any of those. He is a furry, friendly little animal, with a fondness for snacks and fire. Considering his stoic nature, Korwan surprisingly allows his impulsive friend a lot of leeway, and Blue often adventures on his own.
Celia Truesteel (half-elf Bard-13): Korwan's mother. Somewhat sweeter than his overbearing father. She expects great things from her son, and is rather pushy regarding his relationship with Sera.
Marl Raeglon (human Fighter-5): Marl was Korwan's best friend, who died in battle beside him shortly before Korwan went to Sigil Prep. His body was buried near a secret Zhentarim base, and he was later moved to holier ground. Marl found peace and cannot be resurrected.
Mira Truesteel (human Paladin-14): Korwan's especially overbearing older sister.
Nareth Truesteel (human sorcerer-12): Korwan's older brother, a lady's man, and a bit lazy.
