College for
Wizards
The Program: More tightly focused than in years past, the Wizard College remains one of the finest in many planes. There is a great focus on combat spells, but also an intensive study of ritual casting for all your other magic needs.
Students are encouraged to select a preferred implement to focus their magic through, be it a wand, staff, or shiny glass ball. Students will be supplied with a basic implement of their choice; the supply manager suggests the orb. We ordered really heavy on those. You will also be supplied with a spellbook and a ritual book. Blue books must still be purchased by the student for examinations.
Arcana 101 is required of all freshmen, as well as mandatory cantrip classes. All students must learn Prestidigitation to move up to higher level magic. Like it matters; you were going to take it anyway.
"Yeah, this part where you're required to take 'Cloth armor proficiency'? That's your shirt. You take a class in how to wear a shirt. This is your one crib course, so enjoy it." --Naull, junior Human Wizard
"Okay, I need to get my potion out, so I'll put the orb in my... no, it's too large. Maybe if I hold it with this hand, then... no... might get broken in my pack, so maybe... Dammit! No wonder they call this the 'Orb of Imposition'." --Gerta the Red, sophomore Human Wizard
"Ten minutes to cast Comprehend Languages? Sha? The goblins aren't going to wait that long." --Mialee, graduate Eladrin Wizard
WIZARD UPPERCLASSMAN MAJOR EMPHASIS
Battle Mage: Although all wizard majors learn quite a bit of combat, by enrolling in Battle Mage, you pump it up to the next level. Lightning from your hands all the time. Quick reaction to injury. Get knocked down, and then get up again, they're never gonna keep you down.
"Closing Spell!" *ice burst* "Sub-Zero wins. Fatality" --Nebin, junior Gnome Wizard. "Nerd" --Regdar, graduate Human Fighter.
Blood Mage: Blood surges with power, and you surge with blood. Stands to reason that by unleashing blood, you unleash power. With one simple cut, one pulse of blood, oozing out of your... It's... I'm getting... kinda queasy... *thump*
"Sure, when he cuts himself, it's magic. When I cut myself, I get sent to the psychologist." --Kazerobet, junior Human Necromancer.
Simbarch of Aglarond: Okay, technically this term refers to Apprentices of the Simbul, or the apprentices of said apprentices. And technically the Simbul doesn't teach at Sigil Prep, so technically we're using this term illegally, but it's the same thing. Really. Trust us.
"If you want to be really technical, I trained as a Simbarch under a third generation Simbarch who learned the art from someone who met the Simbul once. And I trained all the grad students who run all the labs associated with this major, so..." --Cici Elfaven, Elf Wizard professor of Simbarch of Aglarond-ism.
Spellguard Wizard: Sigil Prep does not teach this course on campus, but students can take off campus courses at the Conclave of Silverymoon for credit. However, if they see you coming in from the Silverymoon portal, jocks will pants you. Planeswalkers Rule!
"Damn straight, Planeswalkers Rule!" --Regdar, graduate Human Fighter
Spellstorm Mage: Storms! Wild maelstroms of magic and electricity, rain and wind and fierce, pounding carnage. By learning to master the arcane maelstrom, you learn to pluck order out of chaos, and encounter powers out of your ass.
"No, there's... um, pretty much always a rain cloud over my head nowadays. Just, um... get a bucket" --Mendel, sophomore Half-Elf Wizard
War Wizard of Cormyr: In conjunction with our Purple Dragon Knights program, Sigil Prep offers training for wizards who wish to fight in the defense of Cormyr. Why do we teach so many classes specific to regions of planes we aren't in? We've got sixteen thousand classrooms. We've got to fill them with something.
"Ow... oh, wow. I'm sorry, I thought Lightning Ripple was ice cream. I didn't want that after all..." *thud* --Nigel, sophomore Human Bard
Wizard of the Spiral Tower: A wizard with a sword? Sounds crazy, no? But here in our little course of Wizard of the Spiral Tower, you might way we are all Wizards with a Sword, trying to tank against a 1000 hp dragon without breaking our neck. And how do we keep our lives? That, I can tell you in one word... Corellon! (The previous was a Fiddler on the Roof reference; please disregard is you have no interest in show tunes).
"Yeah, yeah. You have The One Sword, he has The One Sword, everybody in your class has The One Sword. Back in my day, wizards had to know how to count" --Mialee, graduate Eladrin Wizard
WIZARD GRAD COURSES
Archmage: Sigil Prep is pleased to offer a Master's Degree in Archmage, the first such course outside of the Forgotten Realms. Manipulate arcane energy in its rawest form. Use spells you've already forgotten. And a super-special ability you can use once a day. When you die. For those of you who die once a day.
"And of course, the best part is, once you've got your doctorate in Archmage, they name a library after you." --Elminster, famous wizard guy
