Background: Maddie was born to the small, but influential, House Du’Corren in the city of Menzoberrenzen in Faerun’s Underdark. She was a manipulative, power hungry bitch, even as a child, a trait both desired and annoying in a Drow girl. Desired because that’s how Drow women get ahead; annoying because that’s how mothers get overthrown. It could not be denied that Lolth was strong with this one.
Sad to say, her father Brik’kt, followed the career path popularized by Drizzt Du’Orden, and became the latest in a long line of professional Drizzt clones. He grabbed himself a pair of scimitars, and headed for the surface to fight the evils of the Over, uh, light. Turns out, however, that the market for Drizzt clones was simply oversaturated, and Brik’kt failed miserably. Not only was he overlooked time and again by sponsors looking to hire a Drizzt clone from the too large pool, but when he did land a job, he failed to impress.
Unable to return to the Underdark, Brik’kt eventually fell in love with a beautiful and bossy moon elf woman, and after some lengthy and expensive courtship, he asked for her hand in marriage. The Drow lawyers were all over this one. He lost everything he had left in the divorce, and, in a blow only Drow could deliver, he was punished most thoroughly. He was given custody of Maddie. Menzobarrenzen was rid of her, and without pissing off the Spider Queen.
Annoyed by her pesky new sisters, Mialee and Vadania, Maddie sought escape in a number of ways, though she had to tread lightly, lest she lose the blessings Lolth had bestowed upon her. And so, she started applying to schools. All the good Drow schools wouldn’t touch an outcast, but she did eventually get accepted to Sigil Prep. Damn her luck that both her sisters ended up there, too.
Maddie went straight to work. By her second semester, she had become president of the Students for Lolth. By sophomore year, she was head cheerleader, and on as many organizations as she could cram into her schedule.
By her midyear, she was one of the most influential and popular students on campus. Things were looking up. With all her extracurriculars, backed by her exceptional GPA, she was well on her way to wealth and power after school.
And then she was humiliated. A drunken drow male (and PC) named Kylen got very drunk, and insulted her loudly and publicly in the off-campus sports bar, Post Practice. She nearly ripped him in half with an inflict critical wounds spell, but her very public act of vengeance (in front of a number of good-aligned friends and acquaintances) proved to be devastating. (Her acts of vengeance were usually subtle and behind the scenes).
She spent some time moping, after her various titles and positions were stripped from her. She was kicked off the Cheer Squad, rival Kree Skr’llwar took over Students for Lolth, and she had little left. She formed a rather pathetic revenge squad, and was almost a poor parody of her former, feared self for a while. Even her comrade-in-crime Kailey was fed up with her.
Finally, she came back into herself, and began a comeback. She got her revenge on Kylen in an as-yet-undisclosed manner (although his spirit is presently Kazerobet’s undead familiar), and took over the Morikage School cheer squad/ninja clan by challenging and defeating their leader.
She later made a deal with Roxanne d’Cannith, Moralulani, and a few other cheerleaders to get back on the squad, and has slowly been reclaiming what’s hers. She has influenced a civil war among the Students for Lolth, which she hoped to take full advantage of, although she remains only vice president.
Maddie has recently begun dating Vander. Where this will go remains to be seen.
Role-Playing Maddie Weber: Maddie is the classic social snob, taken to an extreme. She’s manipulative, scheming, elitist. Friendly to your face, but you know she’s making fun of you behind your back. Her best friend is Kailey Tralock, and they spend a good deal of time hanging out and making fun of people who aren’t as cool as them.
It may be unexpected, then, that she is genuinely devoted to school spirit, and is the first to sponsor, organize, and implement fund raisers, campus improvement projects, and tours for prospective students. This is likely due to her natural desire for growing power, but still, a lot of good gets done from her selfishness.
Let’s not forget she’s evil though. Wicked evil when she needs to be. Kylen vanished without a trace because he insulted her in public. Her schemes are seldom public, or obvious, but they’re constant, and more often than not successful.
Maddie, beyond anything else, though, is social. She seeks company, and companionship, and part of the reason she has so many clubs and cliques is because she hates being alone. She’s as loyal to her friends as she is cruel to her enemies.
