Volo's Student's Guide to

Kara-Tur

Although part of the Forgotten Realms, Kara-Tur is different enough from Faerun that student's should consider it a separate setting.  The rules are different, the culture is different, there are far more samurai and wu jen hanging about the place, and the ninjas do stuff besides deliver pizza.  Just the place for all your Oriental Adventures.  (Well, unless you go to Rokugan, but who says you can't have a variety of semi-not-quite Feudal Asian societies?  We've got faux-European Medieval worlds out the wazoo).

There are those who believe that Kara-Tur was once part of Oerth, but then incorporated into Toril when the Realms became popular.  Shut up.

Students should be aware of differences in culture.  Certain friendly gestures in our society are rude insults there, which could result in beheading.  We would tell you what they are, but this is just a short handbook.  Buy the full Volo's Guide to Kara-Tur for more details.  Or Volo's Cheapskate's Handbook to Kara-Tur for less.

DIVISION 'A' SCHOOLS

Kozakura Technical Academy
     Athletic Nicknames: Oni
     Colors: Gold and Silver
Popular Majors: Monk, Ninja, Samurai, other azn stuff
     Alignment: Good
Kozakura Tech started out as a simple tech school for weaponsmiths who make swords much, much better than your pathetic Western longswords, and horseshoes much, much better than your worthless Western hoofwear, and sailing ships much, much more seaworthy than those boats of yours. After a while, the Kung-Fu Fighting craze ended, and rational heads began to realize it wasn’t qualitatively better, just aesthetically different, so they started teaching adventuring classes. Also, an excellent drama school.
