Arcane Campus Tour

"Like, hi, I'm Mialee Summerbreeze, and I'll be your guide on this portion of the tour.  Welcome to the Sigil Prep Arcane campus, where you learn all the arcane arts and junk like that.  You'll notice primarily Greyhawk-style architecture and whatever, with the patterned brickwork and the, like, not-living gargoyles and whatnot.  Most of the pathways are polished cobblestone, which is real pretty and stuff, but it's murder on the feet.

"Of course, the big draw is the Grand Courtyard, sometimes called 'The Quad', for, like, no reason, since it's neither four-sided, or a fourth of anything.  But it's a large grassy area which is awesome for relaxing and reading and lying out to catch some, well, not sun, since we're in Sigil.  But it's pretty.  And a good place to make out between classes.

"Everywhere on campus, you can see this mighty tower, The Grand Library of Knowledge, which is by far the biggest library on campus.  Some students call it 'The Big Library', because, y'know, it's big or whatever.  It has the largest known collection of books anywhere in the multiverse, and adds to it every day.  The clock on all four faces of the main tower can be seen from every point in Sigil Prep, so you always know how late to class you are.

"Another, like, important library is the Elminster Library of Rituals.  It used to be the 'Elminster Library of Spells', but that means something else now.  Anyway, every ritual or magic act ever is in there.  Like, if you made up a whole new ritual just today, and went straight to the Library to look it up, there it'd be.  It's pretty impressive.  And kinda spooky.

"And here's the Bardic Conservatory, which is another library, mostly of historical and cultural junk.  Y'know, epics and poems and plays and all that.  It's a good place to hang out and read casually, or, y'know, make out behind the stacks or whatever.

"Oh, but of course, you probably want to visit the classroom buildings.  Yeah, so here's the Mordenkainen Hall for Wizardly Studies, which is a ten-story, four hundred room complex, like, all chock full of Wizard-type classes.  Most of the Wizard department faculty have their offices on the top two floors, and classes run throughout the day.  The statue of the displacer beast out front used to be on the Incarnum campus, but we don't think we'll ever be seeing that again.

"And this foreboding complex is the Morthos Hall of Warlock Training.  It definitely clashes with the surrounding architecture, because it's made with mostly Far Realms material.  Warlock classes are taught here, as well as related pact-kinds-of-junk.  Um, at least four portals to Hell on the thirteenth floor, which are keyed to faculty ID's only, so you can't really use them for your own personal trips.  And Professor Morthos doesn't like you, so there's no point in asking him.

"This smaller building is the Ronassic of Sigil Learning Center.  Mostly classroom work, for all those Intelligence-type skills like History and Arcana and like that.  It's also has a lot of the non-Adventuring classes, like if you take Algebra or something.  Interestingly?  The only drinking fountain on the Arcane Campus where the water's, like, really cold.

"For Charisma-type skills, there's The Simbul's Sanctuary, possibly the school's most pretentiously named building.  You learn about, like, Diplomacy and like that.  Also, Intimidation, which is a fun class.  And there's, y'know, debate club and whatever that meets here.  Charming staff, really.

"Oghma's School of Languages is this small building here.  You can learn any language ever; the building is totally edition-proof, so if you want to learn the old Alignment tongues even, that's cool.

"Here's High Harpers' Hall, the largest of the school's theater buildings.  It's based on Faerunian acoustic standards, though it's architecture complements, rather than clashes with, the Greyhawkian style of its surroundings.  Morthos could learn something here.  Anyway, very large mainstage, plus a smaller stage for children's theater or experimental stuff, and a black box studio in the basement, beside the workshop.

"Over there is Lliira's Temple, which is both a smaller theater, and a shrine to Lliira (and possibly some other artistic-type deities, I dunno, I don't keep track).  It's kinda pretty, too, though it's white marble exterior kinda stands out among all the brickwork.  A lot of campus bands play here, and like, show choir and stuff.  Comfy seats, too.  Good place to make out between classes.  If there's not a concert going on.  Or at least, if it's a boring one.

"Here's Otiluke Hall of Arcane Ritual.  This is the main classroom building for rituals labs and theory.  All Arcana-based rituals are taught here, and ongoing research into new rituals is conducted by both professors and students.  It's one of the largest buildings at Sigil Prep, and one of the ones most prone to exploding.

"Implements Lab is where we craft magical Orbs, Rods, Staffs, and Wands.  It was purchased with government money, so it wasn't named after anybody.  Anyway, you can always pick up a non-magical one of these things here.  The school is happy to give its arcane students the implements they need.  It's just tacked onto your tuition next semester.

"Another lab that's kinda important is The Merrix d'Cannith Building, where magical stuff to wear is created.  Armbands, boots, gloves, headbands, brooches, even rings, it's all done here.  It's the largest magic items lab, and after the armor and weapons lab on Martial Campus, it's the busiest.  Lots of students commission work.  Just be careful; this is being made by students, not professional artificers.  Your mileage may vary.

"The Tenser Building of Wondrous Craft contains the lab for constructing Wondrous Items.  Pretty much, if you don't wear it, cast spells through it, or hit people with it, it gets built here.  It also contains the classroom work for all Item Creation ritual and theory.

"And here's the Potions Lab.  It's the smallest of the lab buildings, but it's pretty popular.  A small cafe on the backside sells light snacks which you can apply to your meal plan, and also some low level potions.  There's a small infirmary inside, but they only apply potions.  If you need major attention, you still need to go to the main Infirmary on the Divine Campus.

"Connected to the Potions Lab is the corporate-sponsored Greenwall Building, where they do the Alchemy and all that.  I think, like, maybe three-quarters of the explosions are on purpose"  *KLA-BOOM*  "Oo, maybe not that one."

"So, that's about it.  You can continue the tour with Alhandra, if you want.  Any further questions, look me up.  I'll probably be making out in the Quad."
